Swapping a toyota engine into my 110 defender need some help

Hi i have a 110 defender its been sitting down for a while and i mean a while like 6 years or so , finally decided to fix it up the engine had blown a long time ago and i always wanted to do an engine swap never had the money or the time?
so i finally trying to get it done
I been reading on different forum that you can use the same gear box and mount a toyota 3L engine in the 110 defender and it works fine does any one have any info on this or what other engine might be a good idea.

The reason i choose Toyota because the parts are abundant in my country and cheaper than most engine.

SO any recommendation on another engine or what engine would be better

or if any one knows another forum i can get help that would also be great

OHH the old engine some my mechanics stole parts a long time ago and i just don;t want to use a landrover engine unless its the last alternative.

I prefer to have a diesel engine and (turbo would be a plus)

i did a bit research and found you can also put in the 3B engine.
has any done this and what engine did you put in and how hard was it and how well does it work

I would recommend the Isuzu engine. There are abundant old Troopers about now-a-days.

In my country you would never find an Isuzu engine or parts for it
so any idea on either toyota or Nissan engines

the nissan 3.5L (VQ) V6 is meant to be a superb lump and fitted to a few landrovers.

All the Toyota diesels are good engines but I've not seen one transplanted into a Landy.
I dont suppose they're that cheap to get hold off either. Where do you hail from?

I am from guyana south america.They have some guys in my country that fitted a toyota engine in a 110 defender actually my dad knows the guy but the problem is that my dad and the guy don't like each other lol so we are not going to be talking to him they have a few other people i heard about but i donnot knows these people.
On another forum some one was telling me that the toyota 1kz-te engine would be good but that a electronically fuel injected engine which mean it has to have electronic parts of it setup and my defender is very old i am guessing 1980 or later because my dad had this defender beforei was born ( it was working then though lol)
Can someone give me some advice on the 1kZ-TE concerning hooking up the electronic fuel injection is it anything hard because it would need some sort ecu and i am uessig a bunch other other stuff that my defender would not have on the wiring harness
Or would the engine come with everything you need when you buy it

I'd stick with a basic diesel engine that does not require any fancy wiring. Much easier to install and maintain with very little to go wrong.
The mechanics of connecting an engine to a gearbox are pretty much the same for all combinations. You will need to fabricate an adapter plate or if you are using say a Toyota engine and gearbox the mountings and propshafts would need sorting to connect up to the axles.

If you use a more modern engine with Electronic injection control it will require an ECU (Engine Control Unit) and all of its associated wiring, this may be very complicated to design and implement as you are likely to only have partial documentation to work with.

i suggest you stick with an older engine with mechanical injection, as this will most likely be much easier to fit.

Just to say mechanically it's not only the engine to bellhousing adapter plate but the Gearbox primary shaft spigot (end) bearing and clutch plate splines that will also need to fit. in all practical terms it will be much easier to fit another Land Rover engine, even if later and more powerful, maybe imported or recovered from a wrecked machine localy.

Ok i found a 1KZ-T engine but the man told me its not EFI and that what i want but i want to make sure its a NON efi engine how can i check to make sure its non efi

The injectors are will not be controlled by wires from the ECU.
Each injector should have its own fuel line from the injection pump. It acts a bit like a distributor but instead of sparks it distributes fuel to the correct injector at the correct time.
EFI injectors are opened/closed electronically by the ECU at the correct time and will have a common fuel line connecting the injectors.
