Suspension Travel

I mentioned this in a previous thread 'tyre size' but its got nothing to do with tyres so here's its own thread! Does anyone know what the maximum suspension travel of a classic is? tried looking in the haynes but with no luck, any pointers or experience would be appreciated.

Had a further think about this one! If I were to measure the distance between the axle and the bump stop do you think this would be a fair way to calculate the suspension travel? it comes out at about three inches, any opinions?!

Thanks for that! at first when i measured it 3" of travel didn't seem a great deal for an off road vehicle?! but i guess the steel rule can't lie!!
