When I first got my Series 3, it was fitted with Defender seats. I got some with it that I thought were the proper originals.

The backs of these are only held to the bracket by a bolt each side, and the cushiones don't appear to be held in any way.

Surely they wouldn't have been like this originally, or do they have parts missing?

Thanks for any replies.

Nothing missing, that's how they are fitted on my series 2a. Went through mot no problem

You will not pass the MOT with the seat backs able to move; you'll have to put a tie at the back screwed to the top of the tub. I had to get this done about 5 years ago. They do not seem to mind about the moveable/ non fixed seat.

No you dont. Mine passes the MoT just fine and seat backs dont have anything to stop them moving and never have had one fitted (1975 series 3)

You are missing the lower seat frame that the cushion locates into.

The lower seat frame is on "deluxe" models with an adjustable seat, all you are missing are two small L shaped brackets fitted on the front bolt of the seat rail that engage with the wooden cross piece of the seat base to prevent it sliding forwards.

Thanks for the replies.

So apart from the brackets, were the seat base cushions loose?

Can anyone post a photo of the brackets tottot mentions?

Mine are just like yours. The seat bases just sit between the guides. I too thought it seemed a bit odd at first!
I bought and fitted the little leather straps to the seat bases and backs which helps keep them in place somewhat, but not necessary.
