On one of the better days there i had the sunroof open to ventilate the car . On closing it the boy decided to stick his arm out it and well you guessed it buggered up the sunroof . It would go halfway then make a loud clicking noise and jammed not closing any further . Managed with help to tease it eventually closed and havent touched it since .
Whats the fix for it does anyone know please????

If you remove the lamp panel by the rear view mirror, and the sun visors/screws, then you'll be able to pull the headlining down a bit to see the sunroof motor. The clicking may be the motor cog slipping on the mechanism. Mine does the same. May get sorted when it's warmer. Most take the fuse out and stop using the sunroof.

ere hippo - int there a manual drive? seem to remember an allen key winder?
Yes there is. From memory, I think it's a straight screw driver job. White nylon it looks like. Turn this and the sunroof should close. When I did mine I found turning this difficult, so I slid the sunroof shut whilst turning to so as not to put the nylon thing under too much pressure. This option may not work so well if the motor cog is slipping on the mechanism.

The sunroof is unreliable to start with. They're prone to failing/jamming although many say it's largely due to lack of lubrication. Though, they're still poorly engineered compared to other mechanisms. You don't expect Land Rover to screw up relatively simple engineering tasks and this certainly isn't the only aspect of the car that will make you wonder. Need to open your tailgate door to fetch your deicer during moderate snow/ice conditions? Forget it, aint gunna happen.

When I bought my car, they didn't tell me that the sunroof wasn't working properly and sadly I didn't check. I decided to test it on my way home and unfortunately it jammed open and refused to close again. I wasn't overly annoyed at this point as I thought I'd just shut it up/disable it for good when I got home. (I don't like sunroofs anyway) However, it soon started raining and I was completely soaked by the time I got home. Since then, I've had an ongoing love/hate relationship with the car.

Unless you really like it, I'd suggest shutting it and taking the fuse out.

And the runners that the cog moves. One left and one right. They run along behind the windscreen, then turn towards the sunroof:

Not sure if mines the motor, or the rails. Greased the rails a bit, but I didn't think about greasing the motor. It spun when free of the mechanisum, but perhaps needs greased too. Summer job that me thinks.

seems to be a commom complaint ... more info on this here:

Which is why I don't understand why people bother with sunroofs in these anyway. They serve no practical purpose and it's not a case of "if" they fail, it's "when" they fail. And when they do, it can be a major inconvenience like I found out for myself while driving along the M5 in the pouring rain. I am glad mine is now shut in position and disabled.

Fixed my sunroof motor recently as suggested on ere. Squirted some lubricant in the gears by pushing a screw driver in the manual turning thing in the pic below, to allow access. Didn't take it apart. Just turned it 20 times manually after and put it back. All ok now.

To be able to manually control the sunroof, when you put a screw driver in the gear screw, you have to push it in to dislodge the gears, and then turn. It pops back into place when you release and turn. Wiffout doing this you could snap the geats.
