Sump Plug

Hi
Going to change the oil, filter & centrifuge filter today, the sump plug wont budge tried heating it with my blow lamp still the little devil wont budge.
Any ideas or will I have to drill & use screw extractors.

To start off with when you want to get a bolt undone with heat you dont heat the bolt you heat the nut or "what ever" it screws into that in turn expands releasing bolt.

What do you mean it wont budge???? Right socket?,breaker bar? if it's realy tight.Dont be drilling the bugger cos you will be putting loads of crap in the sump, weld a bar to it at the worst if the head is knacked and wait for it to cool down before you try undoing it!

Mmm, sump plug shouldn't be that tight mate..

I assume you've tried shocking it? wooden mallet etc?

yeah print that out and flash it at the sump, plug will pop out

The sump plug on my TD5 did the same, last time I did an oil change - the metal seams to be quite soft and the corners of the bolt head were starting to round off a bit, even with the right sized socket. I managed to get it out using heat from the gas welding torch, then a strong nut was welded onto it before refitting (was done at night and I needed the car next day otherwise I would have bought a new sump plug!)

if your start stripping it try hitting a smaller socket onto it.

Job done, The plug seems to be brass, probably to prevent corrosion & seizing to the sump and like Mantamad rounding when pushing up and turning the same time, the socket was dropping and slipping off the bottom of the plug.
What I did, (take it on-board if you wish) put the socket on a short extension fit the socket bar to the extension, offer the setup to the sump plug, then using a scissor jack that you should have got earlier and put it under the socket bar and raise jack hand tight, then (**** or bust time) rotate bar in an anticlockwise direction, still if no joy put a longer bar/steel tube over the handle and pull, the socket won't slip off.
If that don't work put some hair around it!!
