Hi just have a quick question. I have a 2001 Defender Td5. The sump plug has a square head, 3/8'' or 10mm not sure. would i be correct in saying this is not the original plug?? its seems to be threaded a good distance into the hole, (past where the head would be flush with the sump) and there's a recess machined into the sump, I'm assuming for a copper washer, and a normal hex bolt like you would expect. Has anybody come across this before??

my 1999 defender has that bolt as the wading plug for the bellhousing, and the 1 in your bellhousing that fits a 1/2" drive bar as the oil sump drain so 1 of us has them the wrong way round

Thanks for the reply, yeah id say somebody in the jeeps previous life pulled the threads and re-tapped it to a bigger size. Had a replacement bung bought before i went to service it but was the wrong one, new thread is bigger and is fine thread. Was stuck so just put it back in with thread tape and cut a groove in the head of the plug in case i need to take it out with a screwdiver. Seals fine though!
