Sump Gasket

Hi All

I have now obtained the bits and bobs to carry out a service on my Landy.. (Thanks to the guys for the suggested places to get parts in my previous post)
As the sump is a bit leaky I am going to take the opportunity to replace the gasket.
I ordered a bottom end overhaul gasket set to obtain a sump gasket..
Now I have just received this at work and the only thing that seems to resemble the sump gasket (without getting under the landy that is) is a cardboard gasket. Is this the case for a 2.5TD sump? Should I use this with some instant gasket? Use Instant gasket on its own?
Being very new to Landys I thought I would delve into the wealth of knowledge here and ask you guys which way you would go about replacing a sump gasket, the cardboard supplied one, instant gasket or both..

Can't be certain here but on mine (300tdi) instant gasket was used if memory serves me correctly when a new sump was fitted.

The correct sump gasket is a papery one, about an inch wide, rectangular to match the shape of the sump. Remove the sump, and scrape off all the remnants of instant gasket that someone may have decided to use in the past, clean it up, and spend ages getting the gasket to stay in place while you re lift the sump.

Its a pain, but the gasket seals very well on its own - mine lasted ages and never leaked at all, unlke when it had instant gasket on it.

Up to 200Tdi is a thick paper/thin card affair, from 300Tdi they stopped using gaskets (gearbox as well) and used sealant instead. I think it was more a change of thinking, and improvements in sealants, rather than a change of design, so basically you takes youre choice,
