what a plonker!

A LandRover of any description has yet, as far as I know, ever been classified as a submarine. Wading isn't quite the same!

The army used to have submersible Champs - they used to race them on underwater courses on Saturday afternoon TV. Not Landys though, I fear.

I once drove a Champ with snorkel raised through the ford across the river Tweed at Drumelzier near Peebles. Put it in first gear (which was VERY low) set the throttle somehow, stood on the seat, held onto the top of the screen, and steered with my foot! I got wet to just over my knees, so it was better than sitting in the seat drowning or freezing to death.

It probably had a hand throttle you could set. Jealousy - I've never driven one, and I think they've all rusted away by now. There was some one in Durham years ago who liked to show off the fact that you could use all the gears in reverse. If driving backwards very fast is your thing. We upset him by explaining you could do the same thing on a Messerschmitt by reversing the 2stroke engine.

Sorry, that's quite enough nostalgia (slaps wrist).
