Stupid Question

I ve gota ask this as it has been annoying me for a while now and i have found no conclusive answer about hill descent on the discovery 2. Can anyone explain the procedure of getting it to operate in a manual and automatic for some reason i cant work out if you would actually select a gear as well as low when descending a hill in the manual, surely taking ur foot of the clutch while in an actual gear would cause it to stall. I would like to be able to confidently engage it when i go out to buy one without making a fool of myself.

I dunt have any noo fangled HDC or TC on any of the landies I've driven but it's "almost" impossible to stall a landy in low first or low second especially when going down hill!! & I thought the idea of HDC was that the "brain controlled brakes and throttle response to drive the vehicle downhill..

Yh i thought they might have anti stall or be extremly hard to but i dont know for sure

In my auto I just select low range and push the HDC button (simples)

I can understand why you might be having a problem if you can't organise your thoughts better than the above example.

If you want to engage low ratio so that you have more control descending steep hills, just consult your handbook. It's a very simple and straightforward procedure.

Maybe if you phrased your question better, you might get more helpful responses

Sorry to offend it is simple in an auto follow the hand book like the more contructive chap above. Can't help you for a manual though sorry.

I have a D2 manual, engaging the HDC (like the man said, just press the button) gives throttle and brake control to the ECU 'brain'. I haven't taken my D2 to a playpark yet but I think thats the only place you will find a descent to test the HDC on, round here any hill that might, I wouldn't be on in the wet anyway. In short if you just press the button while going downhill, nothing amazing will happen except that the D2 will take the slope more slowly than you would yourself, all very under-inspiring; this is of course assuming it still works at all in a ten year old motor, I put it in the sales and marketing hype drawer and not in the really useful box.

Ok thanks for the replys i was only wondering incase i had an oppotunity to test it when i come to buy one, i guess not many people use it like and its jus another thing to go wrong like having air suspension but its a nice thing to have.
