stupid design

I had to change a brake light bulb today - after 4 yrs one finally failed, why is the access to the rear lamp cluster so bloody awful??
changing a lamp should be a 5 minute easy job, it took me an hour to do and in the end I had to remove the whole cluster to be able to refit the one lamp holder, again why has this got such a stupid retension system - a fine thread ( m6 ??) with a plastic thumbscrew, best bit though it fouls the insides of the rear panel - FANTASTIC, what a design, and the lamp holder itself, well its made of plastic with a tiny knurled head that you have to grip with your left hand ( unless your a contorsionist) while reaching in through the side seats ( i refuse to remove major parts just to change abulb).
as I sais what a pain in the arse - is this because LR started making things in a more car like way as me old series 3 was easy ( as long as the screw hadnt rusted in place) and if this is the case what are they like now after another 13 yrs .

A disco is an easy light change - try doing a Renault or a noo Corsa - its a front end strip down to do it - 4 hrs :~(

i could change a rear bulb in a minuite or 2? its **** easy

Errr. It is a 5 minute job to change the rear light on a disco. A bit fiddly but easy enough.

ye i took those pointless little seats out, and the covers have gone missing

Four screws on a Disco 2 and the whole light assembly is out, plus you can get at the ends of the door hinge bolts with an oil can or WD-40, and you can also pull the sunroof drain pipes out of their clips and blow up them to make sure they are clear.

Good design, but not if yours is a Disco 1.

I came across an easy solution as my hands were too big for it - get the wife to do it .

The seat definitely caused most of the problem. The number of times I've changed bulbs I should have taken the seat out!

I had a 96 Disco a few years ago and it had 4 brake lights - 2 in the rear bumper and 2 in the upper light cluster .
My sister then bought a 98 Disco and asked me to replace a few bulbs . Spent ages trying to get the upper 2 brake lights working - and acces was poor due to it being a 7 str .
I later found out that the last of the D1's ONLY had the 2 in the bumper like the D2 which I have now .

As Foss says, the ends are clipped up on the panel joint between the corner panel and the side panel.

That's for the rear roofs only mind, and ours were both clear and dry. We resealed both the sunroofs a few weeks ago.

The pipes loop up inside before going down through the bodywork, so don't suck as there may be stale water laying in the pipes
