stuck in 4x4

Hi guys hoping someone can help, i've been off roading all weekend in high range four wheel drive.( high range yellow lever down).when i went to go into high range two wheel drive it will not let me select high range without four wheel drive .(down to low range to release yellow knob then back to high range).

i have free wheeling hubs and these are turning correctly.

So the problem is when in low range will not select high unless the yellow knob is pushed down

I have tried reversing and that did not work.

Any ideas? many thanks oli

Have you tried manually lifting up the yellow leaver as you go from low to high? Just to help in case the spring, etc. are buggered? (or full of mud!)

hi yeah ive tried that its the gear selector(red knob) that gets stuck cheers

Were it me I'd say off with the little cover over the shift shafts - if you've not had it in 4Hi or in low range for a while it might be the selector shafts got rusted/buggered up and are now stuck.

Jacking the front to take the tension off the front propshaft/axle can sometimes help if the problem is a jammed slider in the transmission - a burr might cause things to hang up.
