Hi Guys,

Just changed the coil packs and leads on 2001 p38,

Yes you can change the coil packs without removing the inlet manifold but what a pig of a job.

Anyway my problem is come to change the plugs but they are stuck fast and will not move,Do not reallywhant to put heat and big bar anybody out there ad this problem and if so how did you get them out.

Any help or advice would be great.

You must have delicate little hands!

As for the sparkplugs - anyone who even thinks about wielding a spanner should have a tin or two of Plusgas to hand- not bloody useless WD40.
 
I haven't seen the petrols, but i thought i had the same problem when i went to change my glow plugs. It turned out to be the socket fowling on the head as it was such a tight fit. Bought the correct socket and they flew out. As i said i dont know if its that tight on a petrol but worth checking.

Unfortunately spark plugs have a sealing ring to stop gas getting past them that also stops Plusgas getting into them. Warm the engine, not red hot, warm. Then crack them free. THEN put some Plusgas on them let soak then remove. Plugs should be torqued to 15 lb ft or 20 nm. Which is basically down finger tight and a quarter turn nip. Many over tighten them vastly.

I watched an apprentice fit a spark plug with an air gun!!! :rolleyes:
 
Worst thing I've ever done regards a spark plug was while working on a V12 Jag I got to the last plug removed the old plug, opened the box shook the new plug into my hand but the end cap and come off in the box! bounced on my hand and went straight into the plug hole on the head!!

Turned the engine by hand to raise the piston up and using a torch and the airline until we could see it then picked it out with a small hook covered in grease
