Stuck Bonnet

Day three of owning my refurbished 200tdi and I'd like to take a look under the bonnet.

The bonnet release knob doesn't appear to be very effective, I've pulled quite hard with little movement and so I can't open the bonnet. Any tips as to what's wrong (or more likely, what I'm doing wrong)

It sounds like the cable has stretched get someone to press down on the bonnet while you pull the cable this sometimes works.

Something similar happened to me but I pulled the cable too hard and snapped the cable. not a big problem as you can still get at the catch if you remove the grill off the front and get up there with a screwdriver.

That's what it looks like, I can see the cable through the grill and it's not tight. I can't reach it at the moment, and there's not a spare pair of hands so I'll just have to wait for an assistant

Can't you get at it if you take the grill off, should be able to I would have thought.

try using a long screwdriver to prise the catch back if you can get at it. Once you get it open the cable can be adjusted as it runs through an adjustable nipple.

A-bar is in the way and I haven't got my socket set to hand.

Looks like you're gonna have to wait like you said for an assistant or a socket set to come by.

my bonnet pull lever doesnt work, i just reach my long bony evil fingers through the grill and give the cable a yank from there. does the job, its been like that since i bought it!

I had the same problem with mine, we took the grill out and the A bar and then you may have to gently bend the whole catch mechanism slightly downwards to be able to get at it enough. Bends back into place no prob when bonnet open

I cut my cable, made a loop in the end and left it sticking out through the grille.
