Hello, this is my first post, (although, I'm sure it won't be my last). I've had 8 or so land rovers over the last few years and to be honest not had any really major problems. That is until driving along the motorway, 2 weeks go, there was a bang from the right front, followed by a rapid banging in time with the wheel revolution. Once the AA had returned me home, I jacked the car and rotated the wheel, the wheel snagged at one particular point and there was a tinkling sound from behind the wheel! I purchased a new bearing kit and the next weekend got about the task of replacing it. Both the existing bearings looked new, with new grease, (bearing in mind I have the car 4 months and done about 1500 miles). Then when I removed the disc and hub, I could see that the bolt heads on the stub axle had connected with the bolt heads on holding the disc in place, shearing a couple of heads and disfiguring the rest! At this point I was left a bit stumped as to what could have caused this to happen. I'm just wondering if this happend to anyone else and if the cause had been identified? I would appreciate any advice offered. Thankyou

I would guess that some muppet has left them loose! That's all that's likely to cause it!

Inner race of wheel bearing could have collapsed allowing the hub to rub against stub axle

were all disc bolts still in and tight ive seen a good few come loose and eventually the catch something when far enough out ,if they were then as said someones left stub axle bolt loose

Thanks for all your replies, the bolts were all in tight, (although I will never know with the sheared one). I think the inner bearing, may well be the culprit, perhaps with a loose bolt as well. I've bought a second hand hub this afternoon, as mine had been damaged by the two flying bolt heads, wedgeing themselves and causing the wheel to stop turning. I guess I will now be replacing bearings front and back, just in case. Again, thanks for all your advice and I just hope whoever fitted the last wheel bearing, didn't do anymore work on the car!

:welcome2:It usually helps if you introduce yourself before asking for advice :rulez:

Genuine question - 'hello this is my first post and sure it won't be my last' seemed good to me? Not being a hardened forum user (but had several bits of great help on here thanks) what would be the expectation? Genuinely interested as I'm quite adept at putting my foot in it on occasions...... cheers A
