That type of key should unlock and start car like ming said ,without using the remotes at all.The only thing i can suggest is doing a search on alarm/immobiliser on here, possible ecu fault.

Took my key apart and noticed a small grey chip inside left that inside the house went to start the car nothing! so its gotta be that!

Hi all
took me 1 hour to walk to the local town found a new battery and away back home i went throwing it down all the way what a lovely summer i must say . got in doors put new battery in holder of fob easy little job , went to freelander with a big great smile on me face and press the fob to unlock the LR AND A BIG NOTHING
: --- ( WHAT A WASTE OF TIME THAT WAS . anyway so i then unlocked the LR with key and i noticed that the interior light was not on as it always goes on when i open door ? so i then open the bonnet to look at the car battery to see if any leads are loose but all OK then got my battery charger out and to see if any life in it and nothing dead as a door nail . left it on for only 2 Min's just to see if light goes on in LR and yes it went on and then put key in the ignition and yes again all lights went on. so i disconnected the connections on the battery and took it out for charging and we know latter on this evening i will keep you informed

Hope it's just yer battery Adam - Sounds like yer mita found the problem!

Good news

Charged battery up to normal put connections back on put key in ignition and she started on the button and also the remote fob is back in action so it was the car battery that was dead . Reason for this is that i think my son might have touch the interior light and it might have been on for 2 days i don't know just maybe . So now back on the road thanks all for your help and advice very much appreciated
