I am having problems with my right side (LHD) xenon! It is not working! Sometimes it fires up but then no for a long period. Tried switching xenon bulbs and also ballasts! Everything works on the left side but not on the right. Checked fuses and connectors! Don't know where else to look! Have anyone had any similar symptoms? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem with the passengers side headlight. Sometimes it lights, sometimes not. I've swapped the parts from the other side as you did and no change.

I've had the problem for 18 months and luckily it just happened to work during the last MOT...

Personally I would like to just convert them to halogens as the xenon parts are pointlessly expensive.

Ps mine is a 2003 / 03

So what have you done to work again?

I've heard rumers that the ecus can suffer from water ingress, the L322 is not my bag though so I've no idea where it is. Mattstevens is your man.

Great shame. He was a good authority on the L322 electrics and a good contributer to the forum. ( probably bought a BMW)

Yes he really knew his stuff and his videos on youtube about his upgrades to the touch screen on the L322 were fascinating.

Given how much he contributed on here I am surprised that he seems to have disappeared without a farewell.

Have you tried running a good earth straight from the light back to the battery. I know that it's not easy with all the xenon's fancy wiring but from what you've said it's about all that's left.
:D

Hi,

Just thought I'd post an update. The MOT came up yesterday and it failed on the light issue. I used some contact cleaner on the connections to the headlamps and all is now fine (well for now it is)

Who knows, might only be a temp fix :S

Where the terminals on the plug dirty then ?

i have these on my moded car and did have loads of similar probs.
Mine ended up being a bad earth.
How are these wired in.. are they hard wire soldered, scotch lock fitments or spade connectors.
If you get just 1 slight connection movement it can throw them so if they are adapted in make sure they are soldered.
Otherwise try swapping bits from one side to other 1 item at a time.. ie bulb, then balast and see if prob switches sides. Then run a direct live and a direct earth individually. Other than that if your running say a 10 amp fuse.. up it to 15. on my car they needed a slightly larger fuse to manage the power conversion through the balasts.

Many members on other forum had this prob and was simply a fuse issue or connection.
Failing that simply check the bulb is correctly secured.

I think they are most likely factory fitted as mine were on the l322

As you above post slightly worried that you up the fuse rating to cope with the load !!
There rated for a reason, you might end up burning up your wiring :S

if its factory fitted then yes i agree.
my car has xenon headlights from a different spec of same car and on the spec they came off the rating was higher but most just put them on and expect it to be the same then get probs.
I have no experience as to what are standard etc on landy's so can only draw from moding experiences with my car.
Are the standard landy headlights that the hid's come in a projector headlight and have self levellers?

yep on vogue spec L322 landys the xenon was factory standard with self leveling lenses and projector lenses. also washer jets and wiper on the lens itself.

some of the bog standard se L322 only had halogen light and non projector lenses.
