When my heater starts blow warm air it has a strange odour. I can not really describe what kind. First i have thought that it is because of the decut pipe but i felt it also when i put back the original one. I have tried to find any exhaust leak in the engine bay but i did not feel that smell their. Can it be the heat exchanger?

No i do not think it is coolant (i do not have any coolant loss and also not wet carpit). It is more something like an old heater smells when you start it after long time....

leaves caught in the heater inlet?

Cheers
Yes, could be, or dust on the heater matrix. But how can I check it without disassembling the "whole" car? I have checked in Rave and seems very painfull (coolant and aircon drain, whole fascia panel removal ..)
Is there a more easy way (like to check it from air intake side)?

There are youtube videos of people who spray disinfectant into the vents to kill the moldy smell from the heat exchanger.

I doubt you can see the matrix from the intake side either cos the evaporator is in front of it... bad smell is not uncommon and it's the result of bacteria or fungus ''infection''... find locally something similar with the following product cos it's not expensive https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WURTH-AI...-AIR-CON-CLEANER-300ml-INC-PIPE-/231628904413 read full description(this was used on mine few years ago when i had a bad smell and it worked a treat) ... maybe this is good for you https://www.toparuk.hu/CRC-AIRCO-CLEANER-Klimatisztito-spray-400-ml find a seller who has it

Thanks I will try (or take the car to a local aircon specialist to do the cleaning on a professional way)

Do you know from which point of the system the active foam should be sprayed in? Through the drain pipe from under the car?

I suppose so but all of these sprays have clear instructions.... i can't tell exactly where it goes as my mechanic did the job and i am 100 % relying on him so i didnt ask... for me it was enough that i've got rid of that bad smell

Today I took the car to a garage specialized also for air con. They have cleaned the system first with ozone (O3) for about 30min and then sprayed air con cleaner into drain pipes and air outlets. I can smell now only the air con spray but hope that the bad smell also gone:)
