Strange noise

Hi All, I am John from Sheffield and joined as just bought a 2005 D3. Great car loads of power and no leaks.
I have a strange noise when accelerating, it sounds like chafing but when you you come off the gas it stops !!
Have changed oils etc and gearbox plus power is great.
Anyone ?

Engine is 2.7
The noise gains speed as the car does !!

Sounds like either a leak on air intake or a vacuum pipe off somewhere

This is where we are looking now but nothing stands out.

Wheel bearings are fine and the thing I hope its not is the Auto box but it drives so well !

The noise gains speed as the car does !!

So it's more likely to be transmission related than engine related I would say.

The first thing I would be doing is to check all the oil levels in the diffs, autobox and transfer box.

After that, check to see if anything is catching/touching anything that rotates ie brakes, mudshields, props etc.

has it had egrs done recently ? if sothe pipe may not be tight on the gasket

Thanks Dave, 2 weeks ago we had it in for oils in diffs and transfer, they cleaned breathers also. They said no particles on magnets either.
I thought it could be something rubbing when the engine is under torque but it comes even at the slightes little gas pressure.
We dropped the prop to the front dif and no change it was still there

Not that we are aware and nothing in service info tosay if either of the two were done.
But just wantching on You tube how to do I would say its easy not to get things tight !!!

Is it a manual? If it is whip the sump off and check the crank thrust bearings for play/wear, be on the lookout for any metal fragments in the sump, apparently a common fault on the 2.7 and can wipe engine out.

Its Auto and garage says engine fine, but thats their word

Cracked or leaking exhaust manifold would be my bet.
