I agree with chaser, you may as well get them done. I can be 99% sure it's the ball joints and the wishbones are only about £45 each to buy. With new bushes you can be looking at all the parts you need for about £100. Don't hesitate in getting an angle grinder on the old bolts that are part of the balls though, they're a bastard to get off. All other bolts will come out a doddle.

Its not cheap here in Malaysia $500 euros for the whole lower arm exclude labour:mad:. High import tax and mark ups.

I had the same knocking noise last year in my TD4,R/H Side when turning a bend. Then a few months down the line it turned into a violent shaking when cornering and going straight.Right hand drive shaft went on me.Had a new one put in and have never had a knock since.

Does it happen during straight uneven roads?

I have a 98 L series Diesel and i also have a noise on the nearside when turning right, but i'm not sure if it knocking noise or a hydraulic noise, say from the steeering rack.

As any one any further idea's

Thanks
Ian

Hey john had the same problem, my mechanic greased the drive shaft ends which are encased in a rubber boot. the grease tends to dry out after a while. if you go under ur landy and shake the drive shaft, you will detect the noise.

After the greasing my one was back in control no noise and it only took an hour.

good luck

Replaced my stabilizer bush and drop link bal joint. No more knocking noise now but i still feel i need to replace the lower arm as going to hard uneven i can still hear a little bit of noise.Anyway happy with the result. Thanks guys.:)

I had a similar problem to this and it turmed out to be the rear bush on the wishbone had seized solid meaning that the rubber had ripped itself free and was grabbing in side its housing. Essentially there was no suspension movement. After replacing the wishbone and bush all was fine.
