Hello, re the above when selecting reverse from going forward or vise verse on my 2000 P38 I have a metallic knock sound coming from what seems to be the back end. I have exiled all the normal suspects prop UJ, bushes etc. Am I right in thinking that there is a chain drive mechanism in the transfer box, & maybe this is possibly a bit of 'diff wind up' due to having a pair of worn tyres on the rear and nearly new on the front?

Could be as simple as low oil in your auto box. Lots of these clunks that are transmission related are often down to low oil. Check that first if you haven't already... Let us know what you find...

Ok, have you checked the Large rubber donut at the rear prop shaft for splits and cracks? this takes the grab out of direction changes and gear shifts? any signs of cuts of perishing this needs to be changed...

Never good to run worn and new tyres on 4WD. Guess you just have a bit of backlash in the drive, mine clunks a bit too, not worried about it though.
