I've got a 2006 td4 auto. A few times I've driven it, turned ignition off and if I've tried to start it within 10 mins it won't start. It makes all the right noises but just won't start. It starts fine if I leave it and come back later. No engine lights on or anything but I think it's trying to tell me something. Any ideas what it might be before I take it to garage? Thanks.

It could be a number of things, but may be worth looking at the cam sensor. This is only used at first ignition to time the position of the cam to the ECU for the injectors. Sometimes these fail when hot and need to cool down. Plenty of threads on here about it - some people have tested this by using a freeze spray or similar to see if it helps. About £40 for a replacement if I remember correctly.

well I've just spent the last hour reading up on cam sensors and the like and enhanced my non existent knowledge by 100%. As for TV soaps and the like...........utter s@@t (IMHO)!

Over the following months/years your knowledge about the freelander will grow from all the repairs you will be doing along with building up your tool collection, next you will be asking what diagnostic scanner to buy to check and delete the fault codes, it will become a full time hobby, say goodbye to going out with your mates on an evening or weekend you'll be up to your armpits in grease and oil with gashed hands wearing old clothes that you haven't worn for years that have just become work clothes.

It will become more like a second job keeping it running but you get hooked (addicted) you start thinking this will be last thing i have to do then another problem occurs then another and another, you get the drift.

Good Luck.

. Hmmmm not sure about the gashed hands but diagnostic scanners sound like fun. Instead of growing old disgracefully with cats I shall now surround myself with tools, gadgets and bits of Landy randomly strewn around the house! Bring it on

Could be your low pressure fuel pump starting to fail, same symtoms of mine before it went.
When you turn the ignition on, before you try to start the engine, listen for the fuel pump running.
