Need a bit of steering help

is there anyone local to portsmouth sort of area who could possibly help ?

had brand new track rod and drag link assemblys and steering damper fitted a few weeks ago, and they tracked it, did the center steering box thing as advised on here, etc, but it wasnt quite right, theyve gave it another tweak and laser tracking, but its still not right

its mainly on motorway you notice, to keep straight the wheel is slight off center >>> that way with the middle being at say 1 o clock not 12, and a slight pull to the left at times , when normal driving around town you dont notice it

any ideas ?? or is it a case of driving it, ajusting, driving, ajusting ?

if theres anyone near me who can help ?? id love that

Do you mean track rod which should not alter anything if replaced or drag link which will if not done properly. Drag link needs adjusting to centre wheel.

I found it was my tyres, as soon as I changed them to a different make, the steering was fine after that

how exactly do you check the ball joints ? they had a good look at everything so presume it would be ok ?

whammers- which one is the drag link ? one nearest or furthest the front ?

i could do with a real specialist/knowlegable local zoner to hook up with wh wants to earn a few pennies, things like this and heated seats and air con checking/diagnose, you guys know much more than grages lol

these are new tyres !!! which were put on with the other bits, it was worse and a woprse left pull, its sort of almost right compared, and they were supposed to sort it the other day with final tweaks, but it still isnt quite right, i think everythngs fine under there, it just needs a real landy fluent expertiise looking at and ajusting/tweaking i think

You say it's fine round town but off on the motorway? Does it change when the suspension drops to motorway height? If so that "apparently" is normal. It's in a tech bulletin in Rave somewhere.

Track rod is the one behind the axle. Drag link in front of axle. Changing track rod should alter nothing. Track should be set first. Then with wheels in straight ahead position. Disconnect drag link from drop arm. Centre steering box, Note position of steering wheel with box centred. If steering wheel is more than 5 degrees out with box centred remove wheel and refit in correct position. Steering wheel can only be fitted in 5 degree increments. So if there is a slight out of alignment less than 5 degrees, this is adjusted out later. With box centred. Adjust length of drag link until it drops into drop arm. Tighten drag link TRE. Drive car straight back and forwards at least three car lengths. Note position of steering wheel, (it should now not be more than 5 degrees off centre) if so adjust length of drag link to centre wheel. Repeat drive back and forward until with wheels self centred steering wheel is also in line. Tighten pinch bolts on drag link.

thanks guys

of course the camber etc etc etc, by around town- i mean when your steerign more, turning, bends in roads etc, you dotn really notice, a long straight flat section of road or on motorway , is when you notice it and have to have the steering wheel top central point, at about 1 o clock instead of 12

i think, this is what they did, i asked on here before and got instructions, wrote them down for them to do, but its not quite right still

Wammers: Can you explain process for removing the steering-wheel thanks

Follow instructions in RAVE to the letter. Unless you want a face full of airbag. Also note instructions reference rotary coupling. Unless the steering box, steering shaft, steering wheel have been previously removed and reassembled incorrectly there should be no need to remove and reset the steering wheel for tracking.
