Last week i was driving along the road (it was about 9pm and very dark) i had all my lights on, and they were all working fine i was well within the speed limit for the road, and had my seatbelt on, i got stopped by the police who had a look at the tread on my tyres, they said they were fine and gave me a breathalyser (which i passed) anyway the gave me credit of 12 points and £122 cash back, as everything was fine

years ago plod here started a policy of stopping drivers to compliment them on their driving as part of a public relations thing.......they gave it up after the amount of abuse they got.....

and your point is.........:)

my point being, after i worked it out i should have got at least £285 cash back, now if it had been that i stole the car, had no insurance evaded the police, and as i was doing so, when throe several red light and was speeding in the process, and hit a multitude of cars as i was doing so, i would have probably got probation and, went to a warmer climate to reflect on what i had done, so on reflection i think i will maybe just steal one next time?

Oh, I see, you want a pat on the back for being a good boy and because you were not doing anything wrong you feel the Public Purse should reward you......

1. You either have a problem with the Police

2. You have a problem with the justice system

The Police and the justice system are here to stay and we have to live with it. The law is an ass, nobody understands it and even Judges have to examine the law to make an informed decision. Non of us like some decisions that are made but we cannot do anything about it. Life is a bitch and then you die

Well what i was thinking is this ( a novel idea) if you do something that's braking the law.... you get stopped, and if your NOT (bare with me on this but its just a thought) if your NOT, then they DON'T stop you, or am i being a raving nutter, and a maverick

I'm thinking that Dopey is several hundred posts and many years past realising what LZ is about and perhaps David needs at least another 6 months and quite a lot more mickey take before he achieves the same end ;)

:D......'swhy they got so much grief for pulling folks just to tell em what a fine job of driving they were doing

You do not have to be doing anything wrong to be stopped by the Police. They can stop you at any time.

With regards to the start of the thread, I wondered why, at 0100hrs , you would make such a comment and my first thought was that you were bored but now I realize you were being just a little factitious, however it did strike me that you were a victim of a Police stop on the road and were having a little rant.

We will leave it at that

Actually it was a random breath test disguised as a safety check. Random breath tests are against the law, so plod thiks up all sorts of excuses for stopping cars. When I had my Volvo estate I got stopped several times, always the excuse was dirty rear number plate. If you know the 960, you would know that in wet weather the rear door stays clean for about 5 miles if you are lucky. I always had a bit of fun by then checking their car, had 2 taken off the road, one for a worn tyre, the other for a defective light. they were not amused LOL

If yu was one of the many that have had their motor stolen, then yu would be glad that they was stopping peeps at random and checking them out.

I have no objection to being stopped for a safety check, my objection is to the Police breaking the law at this time of the year in order to do random breath tests.
The law should be changed to allow random breat tests rather than the Police acting outside the law.

True, it is technically illegal to do random stops. The police have to have grounds to pull you over. They cannot legally do random stops. They actually break the law every Christmas by doing random breath tests.

:5biagree:, but as it is I reckon it's better that they do random pulls, after all it might well be a drunk/drugged up driver or some thieving toe rag that they snare.

Sorry Wammers, afraid you are wrong on this one.

No Police stops are random. Even if it appears that you are driving correctly, vehicle looks all in order, the Police can still stop you and they have many reasons why they can do this. For a start they have powers to stop and demand your date of birth, the list goes on, inspect your driving licence ect. Did you know that technically, it is an offence to drive on the road and not have your driving licence with you. Alot of people do drive without their licence with them, the law understands this hence the seven day wonder, however you have still committed a moving traffic offence and therefore the Police have the power to demand a breath test.

As for the Christmas Campaigns, yes the Police do these checks every year but they still hace to comply with the law and in most cases people will get breathalysed. But, in the odd case senerio, where you are not doing anything wrong, you have all the documents with you, you are the registered keeper, your vehicle is in order then the Police have to form the SUSPICION THAT YOU ARE DRIVING A VEHICLE ON THE ROAD WHILST UNDER THE INFUENCE OF ALCOHOL before they breath test you.

As far as I'm concerned it is just pain in the arse. Best one is when you say you haven' a clue of reg number but it's a customers car.

What planet are you on? The police have freely admitted that they use any excuse to stop drivers in order to carry out random breath tests on the Christmas run up. My point is that if the police think it's OK to act outside the law on one thing why not others? They are supposed to set an example of upholding the law, not breaking it.
In Sussex they have actually had road blocks where they breathalised every driver, no pretence at safety checks.
I'm all for stopping drink/drug drivers and I'm all for random checks, the law should be changed to allow the police to do random checks within the law.
In France random checks are the norm, I have been stopped a few times, no problem, I rarely drink more than a glass of wine with a meal, but heaven help you if you don't have your drivers licence, certificate of insurance and log book with you.
