:mad:My trusty Defender H481 PUF has been taken from my drive sometime
in the night on Sunday 22 November 2009 by persons who obviously
pay for nothing and just help themselves ! It is a green hardtop with a
white roof and the old blue/white county stripes on the side and has
the 200 Tdi engine. I live in the Meon Valley in Hampshire and this was
not an isolated incident so all 4x4 owners please be vigilant !!

sorry to hear that mate hope you get it back (or their bollox go squaire and fester in the corners ) come to think about both options together sounds good

Look, this whole thing is getting out of hand isn't it? Since having mine stolen on November 9th (see thread on this page 'defender 110 stolen')

Have any of the victims on here had a satisfactory resolution from either the police or their insurance? I've certainly had neither! These thefts are serious, as Land rovers can be very expensive. Mine, I estimate, was worth around £14,000 but of course my insurance thinks £12,000. The police don't consider it a theft even worth a visit!

I am going to lose money, time, and get bloody depressed while I have to search for a replacement. I'm sure all the other similar victims on here and elsewhere will suffer the same. In the meantime the scum that take them know full well that they won't even be pursued by the police, let alone be given any meaningful punishment should they happen to get caught.

It's not really the police's fault, as most I have spoken to, would love to be able to catch these vermin, and see them properly punished like we would, it's just that they're so saddled with paperwork and Politically correct bull**** that they simply haven't got the time.

I'm sure it's not just Land rover theft. Any vehicle theft, burglary or other intrusive high value crime. At some time in the future, the clueless ****ers that administer our laws will need to realise that it's time to stop, and put the advantage back in the hands of the honest working citizen.... won't they?

What can we do about it? I have no idea, but if the bastards that stole mine come back, I'm going to chain saw them up and feed them to the pigs while they're still alive!

(I've had a bad day..... can you tell?!)

Will

Sorry to hear that another ones gone...

Been down this road a few times in Lz...which political party is prepared to be brave enough to address the issues of social disorder..sadly none appear to be making that move in the foreseeable future. More concerned with protecting the wealth gap there is between themselves and the people who they are paid to represent.

It is impossible to have the views of the common man and rise through the ranks of these 'closed door' political parties. If you get a foot in the door as a councillor you are 'encouraged' to tow the party line...or be shown the door..a good friend of mine is a labour councillor in the west mids..black country area. He's been fighting for 20 years to climb the ladder but as he is viewed as 'radical' in his views on immigration, unemployment, benefits and the judicial system, he will never get to a position of power.
As he says, he'd rather do what he can at the local level with no chance of changing things nationally, than throw in the towel and leave the locals to some idiot 'yes man/woman' that will screw anyone over to get on the gravy train of westminister.

Sad....we need a new political party with substantial backing before things will change..

Mine was stolen from Gloucestershire in September from my driveway. It is virtually the same as Malcolm62's. I was extremely lucky as it was found 2 weeks later in Reading. (if you read my other posts you will see the saga). It was written off by the insurance as it had been handpainted with green gloss paint but hadn't been damaged as they obviously wanted to keep it. Luck has been on my side, when they smashed the steering column with the chisel I found inside it they damaged the lighting cables which is maybe why they had to abandon it, also someone had deliberatley driven 6 inch nails into 2 tyres to stop it, again to my advantage.
It has been a nightmare, insurance people were very slow and I had to chase them nearly every day, but in their defence they did pay out top whack for it and delivered it home and paid 1 months Police storage fees.
The Police did nothing, except happen to find it and pick it up. No one, ever called me to let me know what was going on and as it was found by Thames Valley Police, Glos Police said they were responsible for it and then vice versa so nothing ever happened. I am sure they knowthe people who had it, if they went onto their site they would probably find green paint everywhere!!, but they wouldn't do that would they.
I am really lucky, I bought mine back as salvage, its had a few new bits, a big steam clean and apart from smoking like a chimney as its been running on red diesel, it is damn near as it was, so far.
It is now back on my drive, next to the door, with a new security light, blocked in by my car, with a new Disklock and Clutch claw.
I hope you are as lucky as me and it turns up soon, but I really don't know how these people can be stopped

Out of interest - before yours (or anyone's was nicked) - did you have dislok etc. fitted ? Immobilisers? Other tricks (don't need to be mentioned). Just wondered if it makes any difference e.g. get lifted and removed somehow anyway for e.g. parts if they can get it out of drive. We have ours blocked in - but not always possible depending on who's in/out etc. - bothers me sometimes that we get complacent.

Anyone please for advice on the insurance side - do you include the mods - ie exactly what it would cost to replace if stolen?
Currently value of our vehicle (i.e. what we paid and what we reckon it's worth) plus all added mods in our view is worth more than insurance currently states (not much more) but when questioned there seemed to be an issue in terms of who could insure etc. and for how much so thinking an issue ultimately. Just wondered if anyone else had this problem.

Tikkatoo - who is your insurance with? Worth keeping an eye maybe on who's good/who's not on forum

My insurance was underwritten by Aviva and it ran out 1 week after it was stolen. I have now re insured with Lancaster.
I have no mods, its just bog standard, but I was surprised by their valuation, probably could have pushed my luck and got more, they always say don't accept the first offer but I was happy with it and after so much hassel with everything else couldn't be bothered.
In the long run I have just been very lucky

I had my landrover Defender 110 300TDi Station Wagon stolen from a medical centre car park in Todmorden Lancs on 19th Jan2010 , the carpark was monitored by CCTV and all doors locked , I had a wheel lock as additional security , but lazily neglegted to fit it for a short visit to the Docs ! It was horriifying to find my 110 gone !!. The police appeared when I called but subsequently seemed to loose interest in the theft. I am seriously considering whether I will buy another defender again as they are relatively high value and seem to be too easy to steal and too painful to loose. If I do get another one I will definately invest in additional security such as a Mud Meck lock or tracker sytem , but they are also expensive. I am really ****ed off that individuals (or possibly organised gangs ) can semingly get away with stalking and stealing cars whilst at the same time the police seem intent on focusing resources on drivers smoking or eating at the wheel or other such minor offences .... I have to say however that I found my insurers Aviva surprisingly good and the guy (Daniel) applied insight and knowledge of landrover market they were excellent at arriving at a valuation ..... however I have now lost my no claims bonus so we will see what the future brings !!

Just had some bugger try and steal my Radio from my disco in my local pub!

I found the radio sitting on the passenger seat. Obviously my sad radio/tape system wasnt good enough for him!

I should be able to refit it all. No major damage seems done.

Sorry to read about all your cars. Makes you mad though doesnt it?

I am voting BNP just to make the other buggers sit up and listen!!! Nothing to do with race, just being ****ed off...

You're not the only one mate.
This car theft problem needs addressing and the criminals know it's a breeze to steal and get away with it. Prisons cushty, sentences are lax.

What astounds me is that car thieves even go for landrovers!
FFS they are hardly a pretty machine or one which is desirable to joe public.

I remember getting my skyline imported and having to get an immobilizer fitted.
I asked why they didn't come with one as factory standard (in Japan) the import-insurer explained that in Japan car-crime is almost non-existant as both the shame factor and decades in prison deter all but the most fool-hardy.
