I'm still struggling to identify a screaching/whining noise. Any idea's? Here are the details.
After driving for about 15 minutes the car starts to develop a screaching/whining sound occassionally from the front(I think) which only happens when you start to turn the steering. If you apply the brakes it stops.
Sods law was when I took it to RCV in Doncaster, no noise. I was thinking wheel bearings or Power Steering pump/belt. I want to get it sorted as I really like the car, its an X reg 1.8 with 59k miles.
Thanks in advance,
Hamish

i agree wiff flops. . . .the belt is toothed but i have seen them still going wiff no teeth left . . . .an old mechnics trick is to mix in a spray canister a very small amount of washing up liquid [fairy is best wiff gaylanders] and spay it direct on yer belt while its running. . . .if squeel stops or get quiter then change belts. . . .but this sounds like power steering parts, make sure that yer highbollick oil is correct . . . .:)

I might struggle with the Fairy liquid test as it only happens when on the move, and only as you start a gentle turn, it stops once committed to the turn. The belt looks ok and is not loose.
Next day off I get I'll take the wheels off, check the brakes and Pads, and see if there is any bearing movement before going down the Power Steering Pump/Belt replacement.
Anyway, thanks for the helpful comments so far, I know Gaylanders are not the favourite cars on here. Its good to know people want to help as well as take the ****!
