Afternoon all,

Believe it or not I have a leak! It runs down and drips from the front axel. I have replaced the FPR where I thaught it was coming from, and when that didn't work I replaced the rocker cover gasket as there was a little leak there. The main leak is still an issue, so I was under it today and I can see oil around a gasket towards the front of the gearbox where I'm assuming it attaches to the engine, the gear box oil leves is fine and the engine oil level isn't dropping! Think this may be a too bigger job for me to handle, anyone had similar issues? Any help will be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Is the oil dripping down and coming from the front of the gearbox or is it dripping from the axle? What engine you got?

On a 300tdi If its from the gearbox and its next to the wadding plug hole it could be the rear crank oil seal.

If oil is dripping onto axle it could be the brake vacuum pump r/h side of engine

It's a td5, its droppin off the axel but it's coming from what looks like a rubber seal at the front right of the gear box This isn't mine but it's the same area

Might be the seal at the rear of the crankshaft as these do tend to leak. Maybe not enough to show on the dipstick, but enough to make a mess. Mine looked similar and it was coming from the little semi circular bit in the rocker cover seal at the back of the engine and running down to accumulate on the bottom of the bellhousing. I've stuck my rocker cover gasket on with sealant now and it's a lot better. It's easier if you clean everything up so you can see where it is coming from.

Yea iv had the rocker cover gasket off and it was in good nick, used silacone to put it back on and the tiny leak that was coming from that semi circul has stopped, gave it a reli good clean up and a run out and no leak from the gasket, it's definately further down

Fuel regulator is leaking mixing with oil making it look like an oil leak common on td5 enc.no oil level loss from box or engine regards gatso 👍

its been replaced gatso, I did it thinking that was the problem, and put on a brand new one, pig of a job but the leak is lower down, il try find a diagram or something and stop being so vague! Cheers

If you're good with the spanners then you could do it your self. I think personally I would replace the rubber gasket and buy some gasket sealer as well. Use the sealer to 'glue' the new gasket to the sump before you lift in to place other wise the gasket could move and give you more problems as you bolt the sump back in to place. Take your time don't rush it and make sure the joints are clean.

Roger I will do, I'm ok when it comes to doing stuff myself but is it possible without lifting the wagon up? Cheers for your help with this, been going on a while now!

Yea iv had a look at what the job entails and think il give it a go, is there anything else maintenance wise I can do while it's off? I'm guessing il have to drain the oil off

Great, see that was a bit of a daft question now! Il try get on a ramp at work and get it squared, iv read the oil pump bolt is an issue with them aswell so il replace that while im at it.

Good luck and lets us know how you get on. I've got to take the sump of mine soon. My 300tdi hybrid decided to develope a big end knock while I left it ticking over on Saturday. Not a happy chappy. :(
