just put a replacement master cylinder and servo on the disco (300tdi auto) and its made no difference to the lack of braking!! push the pedal and theres no 'bite' in the brakes and the car just coasts to a halt. brake pedal is rock hard, no spongyness at all, and its consistent - it stops dropping in the same place every time and wont go any further so i can rule out air in the system.

if ive replaced the master cylinder and servo and there is no difference at all, what else should i be looking for? vac pump on the engine? replace discs? brake bias valve?

really gettin desperate for a cure now, car is too dangerous to use!!

cheers, Mark

If you pump the pedal a few times, then start it with your foot on the brake do you feel the pedal sink slightly, if not it looks like a vacuum problem .

I know this is a silly question but you have bled all wheel cylinders and made sure the pistons in the calipers are moving havent you ? cos it sounds like somthing siezed or blocked.

the brakes have been bled about 4 times, each time using fresh fluid. at 1st i thought it was just air in the fluid but the problem got steadily worse. i took all the pads out last week and checked that each caliper was ok and not siezed and all pistons worked perfectly. all the pistons are clean with no scoring or rust on the bores.

found the problem, a seal has gone and grease has contaminated the inside pads at the front. never spotted it (cause im stoopid) so now i gotta do the seals and put new discs and pads on

rear brakes have never been perfect on my disco, but managed to solve that now aswell so hopefully tomorrow all will be back to perfect. the front inner pads were totally soaked in grease as was the inside hub of the brake disc. rear calipers had a rusty lip on them which was stopping the pads sliding fully into contact with the discs, the pads were making about 70% contact but the lip was stopping them pushing fully onto the discs.
