Hey all, have come across a problem with the manual box of our 2004 Disco2 TD5. It gets very stiff in all gears when hot - above 30 miles in distance or when towing. Its fine when cold and have not had any problems with 1st/2nd gear changes like others on the site. Has anyone any ideas? Thanks

first thing is check and change yer gear oil .... and duz yer clutch work as it should ??? no leaks etc ....

Hi Rick...thanks, will check the the gear oil....no worries with the clutch, works fine, no slipping or leaks.

I've got a similar problem with my 2003 S2 but my feeling is it's not the actual gear box but the selector mechanism. When the box gets hot it feels like the gear lever stiffens and the bias springs can't work properly making gear selection difficult. When the box is cool it feels no worse than any other R380 in selecting gears - if you take my drift!!

You need to change the gearbox oil to a fully synthetic or your syncro is on its way out.

I have been nursing the second gear syncro in mine and have prolonged it further by using a fully synthetic gear oil !
