Stiff steering!

I was driving home last night and my steering all of sudden went funny. At some points whilst turning it seems normal then at other points get really stiff. The fluid level is fine, recently replaced the steering box. Im guessing its a faulty pump

?? Its a 300tdi 90. Thanks

Could be the belt is slipping - used to happen to the Disco when I went through big puddles.

check it for chunks missing in the belt. i have same symptoms now and again on my disco and that what the problem is.

ya need to change it then

if that belt goes ya loose the alternator as well remember

i have spare belts, just aint put em on yet.

The belt is also fine, would it help to flush the power steering fluid out and replace it? If some dirt got in when I replaced the steering box that would cause some problems I suppose?
