does anyone know if the amplifier really exists as i cant find the ******* thing and what does it look like because i want to take it out and drive over it or blow the bloody thing up, my psychiatrist says driving over it seems abit extreme and the latter would be more satisfying so blowing it up it is then, thats if i can find it

been under both seats apart from auto changer nothing there some say it is behind glove box but so much stuff there don't want to pull out wrong thing out

What year is your disco?

I have a JVC head unit and changer (changer under the seat) and it's wired up to the sub in the speakers in the back door.

What's the problem with yours (apart from it being able to play hide and seek rather well)?

Slither22 We don't know the model or year of your disco.

But the standard setup for my model/year is the head unit which is a tuner/amp/cd controller it feeds 4 loudspeakers plus 2 tweeters there is also an output to the rear door sub loudspeaker amp, the 6 CD player is under the drivers seat (uk spec). The kit can be ether Clarion or Philips. other makes will be an owner fit.

Japan spec vehicles (Pioneer) have a seperate amplifer and I believe it's located in the footwell possibly behind a kick panel I have no idea which side.

it's a 97 300tdi disco i had back door panel off only stuff in there is for locks and wiper, i took it to shop in cardiff to be hard wired they wanted £300 to do the job they said the amplifier is causing problems for the head unit no subs fitted just removed a kenwood head unit put a jvc dvd player in and same problem lots of noise through speakers which has nothing to do with the music or radio stations

So it's not a jap spec disco then. Before you fitted the Kenwood head unit into the slot u should have seen cables for the left and right front and rear speakers a screened cable cable that would have provided power and signal to the sub in the back door and also the aerial coax and power.

Any other cable 'may' mean that u have an amp and any additional heavy power cable from the battery would also mean u have an amp. Amps usualy only go in the boot or under the seat as they need a bit of ventilation.

I suspect that u have I the loudspeaker cables mixed up the only way to check without a wiring diagram is to connect one speaker at a time and test each time u do it, u may have to meter the speaker cables just to identify them.
Start with the two front speakers first with just power and aerial connected to the head unit. And £300 is a stitch up, Halfords will fit a new radio for free.

Regards
