Hi guys/girls,

Got the freelander 2 on a 07 plate, I love it! but It's got a steering wobble that's getting worse! Here's a list of symptoms.

Wobble in steering present from 30mph and continues upwards without relenting.

Occasionally the wobble completely goes, but then comes back.

Iv noticed it's only present whilst accelerating, as soon as I let off the wobble goes.

Today it's now started loudly knocking whilst turning.

And while coming to a stop (at low speed) it sort of gripped from knowhere made a loud bang making the front feel like it was hanging off.

I'm not sure where to start, all tyres are the same and iv had them all rebalanced.

Iv been told it's tracking,

Track rod ends,

And drive shafts,

Just not sure what direction to go in, anyone had anything similar, or managed to fix the issue?

Welcome to LZ! :)

Have you checked the TREs for play while someone else turns the steering?
I have never had a FL2, but clicking or knocking while the steering is turned under acceleration is often a sign of CV joint wear.

Thanks for reply,

Iv checked the tre's for play, but not while someone operates the steering for me, Iv not noticed anything out of the odinary visually but I'll check again! And I'll have a look at cv joints too.

The steering things really strange it can shake out fillings one minute, then the next it's as smooth as silk, do you really think it could be tre's that's the issue? If it was tre's wouldn't it wobble when it's both accelerating and decelerating, that's was throwing me off really soon as I let off the throttle and cruise the wobble goes.

TRE wear basically means the attachment of the steering wheel to the road wheels is loose, and the tracking is varying slightly in motion.
So it can have all kinds of strange effects. TREs are cheap and easy to change. Check them thoroughly first, then look into CV joints.
