Hi, Does anyone know why, when passing over any ruts or deep manhole covers, the steering wheel on my '94 classic shakes violently from side to side for a couple of seconds? She drives perfectly otherwise with none of the steering shake associated with wheel balance problems. There is no pulling or wander either. Someone suggested a worn ball joint. Is this a possible cause?

Hi.

I'm not to familiar with the Classic, as I have a P38, but have you checked the steering damper? I had a shudder on my steering. Took it to have the joints checked and all seemed fine. I then spoke to a Rangie spares shop and they said I must checked the damper. Fitted 2 and all my problems are solved.

I ahd that problem on my 1998 DSE and i checked the steering joints and could not find the problem untill i took it to a mates workshop and we put it on the MOT ramp with the moving plates you run the front wheels on and we soon found wear in both track rod ends, i could not detect that with a bar

ere andy....get off the forum and do some welding :D:D:D:D you got an exhaust down pipe for a petrol series ?

I was just about to but I keep getting interupted :D

Down pipe for petrol Series. Don't think so. Try TJ Landrovers at Three Legged Cross. Oh and you will need to get the front wheels up onto ramps to get the old one out and the new one in, there isn't enough room otherwise :)
