UPDATE:

Apparently the part I need is obsolete and no longer available. Got this e-mail from Britcar:

"Hello
Thank you for your recent order, unfortunately QEP104801 is now fully obsolete from Land Rover, I have carried out a Europe wide search and there are no dealers anywhere showing stock of this part, as a result we have cancelled your order and processed a full refund for you.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Now this has been brought to our attention we will be removing the part of our website.
I hope we can help in the future."

So, now what? I'm thinking that this part must be pretty simple to make. It's just a length of small diameter steel tube and two fittings. Surely a hydraulics specialist could make one? There are a few of those in Shetland as the marine industry up here is quite big.

I don't think a second hand rack locally will be an option as it will suffer the same issues. I'll check prices online....

What a PITA being NLA :(.
You could see if someone like Pirtek could make one up for you. The fittings used are industry standard sizes. ;)

Was actually thinking myself they might be easy enough to fabricate or like you say, someone make them for you. I know there are steering rack
reconditioners active in the Jaguar scene, they may have a solution or know of one. Will have a looksee.

Managed to get one on evilbay inc shipping for less than I was going to pay for just the hydraulic line. Awaiting it's delivery. A complete rack, that is.

UPDATE:

Finally got the new rack in a couple of days ago. For a second hand part it was in excellent condition. The steering works lovely again.

However, on the test drive it now seems like the turbo is playing up and the SRS light has come on for some reason.

I'm not putting another penny into this lemon. It's now a parts car for my other Freelanders. And when they need replacing it will be with something other than a Freelander.
