Today has been a busy day sorted out back axle fitted new panhard with polybushes and have always had a power steering leak from somewhere we today i was investigating and found it is voming from the shaft seal.had a poke around now when i turn left it has power steering and no loss of fluid now when i turn right even with wheels off floor theres no power steering and oil ****es out the seal by the steering shaft

So is it fit new box or can seal be done whilst on the motor still

You have been a busy boy:D Seals were replaced on my old RR and they lasted two months due to the worn shaft. It's even been said on the forums that a refurbished box can last less than twelve months.
I suspect most boxed are refurb these days, but I would go for new, but I suppose it depends if you don't mind doing the job again in a year or two down the line :(

if shafts grooved or pitted seals wont last but on a good shaft they will for many years , shaft repair sleeves sort out worn shafts

I was sure I had a steering box leak. Now I'm not so sure. I've now been underneath whilst someone is up in the cock pit (ooh err missus) turning the steering lock-to-lock, but didn't see anything coming from the box. I did however, after moving a few panels, noticed it was really messy in the area where one of the braided/flexi part of the pipe goes into the steering box. Hopefully, it's just a new bit of flexi pipe, or what ever it's technical name is. The thing is, it looks a right bastard to get to!

Any suggestions folks?

Do you know where I can get shaft sleeves for the steering box? I have used SKF speedi sleves on bigger shafts and they work fine, but not on shafts like this.
I recently bought a steering box to re build and I think it would be a great idea to sleeve it.
