hi all.. hope someone out there got can help me out..
i recently bought a 97 300tdi.
failed mot cos of play in steering.. fitted new drag link and vagueness in steering went.. passed mot,,
however ive noticed that its now pullin to the left.. had tracking checked, swopped front wheels over.. still pullin same way.. dont kno if it was pullin to left before due to the vagueness in steering..
then i noticed yesterday that i have more steering lock one way than the other.. found a thread on here saying ya need to ensure the arm on the steering box is in the central position before adjusting anythin else.. downloaded rave, and it just tels you to centralise steering box..
question is "if the steering box is not central, will it cause the steering to pull to one side?"

thanks in advance for any replies..

p.s. does owning a disco entitle you to free stress relief medication when ya cant get where ya wanna go cos all the people without disco's r blocking all the roads when there is only half an inch of snow? :)

The steering box adjustment will just take out the play/backlash of the steering/uj(if all other parts of the steering link are good).

If the car is pulling to one side u have to "centralize" the steering angle....professional equipment(and personell;)) needed.

i have more lock to the steering one way than the other.. wonder if someone has been messin wiv the steering before i bought it.. if the steering box arm aint centralised would the pas try and return it to centre causing it to veer to one side? dunno if i'm explaining myself very well.. sory..

Have you measuerd the drag link and adjusted it to the correct dimension?

Depending on the actual box, I believe some have a centralising pin. The older ones it is a case of turn on full lock than back a couple of turns - check Rave, details should be in there.

Have you also checked the tracking and the tyre pressures; both might cause a pull one way or the other but also be aware that a pull to the left might just be due to the road camber.
