Steel Seal

Yes I'm a skeptic even before I write any of this :doh:... I've got a Discovery V8 (wifes to be honest) ... NO I'm not the best home mechanic ... Able to keep the old series 3 running ... BUT ... I open the bonnet of the V8 and I'm lost ... Well the water goes down and I can't find a leak ... There is some water vapour from the exhaust ... BUT ... No oil in the water or milky oil ... BUT ... The engine is running slightly rough on one of the cyclinders ... NOW ... I don't think I'm up to doing a head gasket myself ... Ain't got the money to pay a garage ... Do I pour a couple of bottles of Steel Seal in??? Remember it's about an £800 car so nothing flash anyway!!!

You will have water vapour when the tempreture out side is in single figures but now things are warming up that should disapear quickly.
Take out the plugs, if you find one that very clean then you have a problem.

All these products only last a short while then the problem returns, its an easy job to remove and refit a head takes a bit of time but straight forward job to do.

I'm not really a fan of things like Steel Seal, but I chucked a bottle in a classic V8 (same thing, motor only worth a grand) and it held for over a year until I sold it. I intended to do it at the next major service, but forgot about it!

But to be honest, I don't think I had a failure into the combustion side, just the coolant side, since there was no pressurising or contamination. Not sure how well it would hold on a serious failure, but I'd give it a go.

Downside is a buggered engine maybe.

I like anything Land Rover ... Unfortunatly I grew up in the Series age and I would be the first to say they ain't without their faults ... But I'm still in an time when it was all a bit more straight foward ... Dangerous I know but comfortable ...
