I have a problem no one seems to solve, for about 3 years my power steering box makes noise when I reach full left or right. A few mechanic looked into it but no one seems to solve the problem and they say its becuase the pump is full when I reach the full left or right (sounds to me like bool). the problem started after I took my vehicle for maintenance (I think they did something bad ). there are not a lot of professional mechanics where I live if any, and since then I'm taking care of my car myself and can anyone think of where to start with solving this annoying thing?

Really? like that out of nowhere it start to make noise? it wasn't there when I bought it... is it a matter of time?

It could be the drive belt. When a fan belt is loose on your alternator, the sound is very like the squeal of tyres on a road when cornering a bit fast.

Disco's often make a groaning noise from the power steering. Its something to do with the vibration of the fluid flowing through the pipes. Don't know if it applies to Defenders. there is a service bulletin on Rave somewhere. Its not meant to be a problem.

Thank you all for the help, I changed the drive belt and its much better now, also I noticed the tensioner was a little stuck from dirt so after a few push it was released.
