D'oh!!

So, sods law strikes again...getting prepped to go on holiday with the missus and go to fill the car up with go go juice and go go gas. Drives fine, nice warm day etc. Start the car at the petrol station and shes idleing at 2.5k so i clunk it in gear and think just get on the road and she will be ok but theres a delay at the station so she idles like that, in gear for prob a min or so.

then all of a sudden, smoke starts coming out from the left side under the bonnet and a watery puddle appears on the floor so i immediatley turn her off, get out and disconnet the battery!

so called the RAC man etc and he was 2.5 hours away and i thought i best move her as she was in the way abit. checked all the fluids, she was fine and she started and drove fine also.

So i have a feq qus.
1. why was the idle so high and how can i stop it doing it again?
2. what was the smoke and where was it from?
3. why me?

1: Assuming this is an EFI motor. Sticky stepper motor (idle control valve). Remove, clean, test, refit. Set base idle. (you might want to consider taking off plenum and ram housing and giving it all a very thorough clean)

2: No idea! Could be with high idle temperature went high and the smoke was steam? Check coolant, check for leaking/perished hoses.

3: It's just your turn!
