Guys i still have starting problemson my 21/4 petrol , fitted with a webber carb.. when its cold its on the button .
After driving a while if you switch off for ten minutes it wont restart , you can smell fuel almost like its flooding, even with no peddle pressed just turning the key.. any ideas? I have a good spark when its hot and the truck is fitted with lumenition..

Is the fuel line running near anywhere hot such as on top of exhaust manifold?
Webers dont like vapour which may be the smell you are getting once everything is warmed up. SU carbs are more tolerant of heat.
Try wrapping the fuel line where it is exposed under the bonnet with the foil stuff you use behind domestic radiators to reflect heat.
I once had a Mustang that was a b**tch to start when hot and this cured the problem.
