I have a 2007 freelander 2, In Oct last year my car just would not start turns over not firing ,Had it recovered to a landrover garage where they put it on diagnostics and told me the crank shaft position sensor was showing a fault. Part was changed and car went fine until late now and it is doing exactly the same. Again taken to landrover garage, this time it's showing a throttle body fault so had that changed, Two days later same fault won't start .
Any idea,s ? it's cost me £750.

Hi,

Do you hear the starter motor ? Does the engine try to start and stop immediatly ? Do you smell fuel ? …

When started does the rpm is stable on idle, or varying ?

Diesel engine ?

If you can’t rev, it certainly a fueling issue, bad injector, a fuel pump … or a bad sensor ( I doubt they missed that )

Since it 16 years old vehicule is can be expenssive to keep it on the road

On idle the rpm is stable. It is a 2.2 deisel
If the fault was an injector would it not run but roughly. Also why would the diagnostics show a throttle barrellsamazon fault. The mechanic said there is a mixture butterfly inside it that could stick this sounded reasonable but a new one didn't fix it .

£750 for a throttle body, that's a rip off. The part costs under £100 (OE part, not one in an LR box), and takes 30 minutes tops to change.
If it's not working after the work go back an demand it's fixed, and ask to explain why they've over charged you by such a huge amount.
Threaten going to training standards if you don't get a satisfactory response.

So if you manage to start it, does it take long to start ? Does it start when the engine is cold, warm ?

How much you get for your last bill ?
750 is this the amount you payed for 2 garage bills ?

You can call them back, normaly they will not charge you again, you have warranty on the repair. But you need certainly to pay the towing

It's not for mixture, which suggests the mechanic is a fitter. The throttle butterfly is there to aid a smooth engine shutdown by blocking the inlet, which prevents the engine getting full compression, so giving a stable shutdown. The butterfly will also close when on overrun increasing engine breaking, and it's also modulated in position to aid EGR operation.

The gears to fail, but a brand new OE part isn't anything like £750 to replace.
