Hi fellas.
Ive got a 2002 RR TD6 which usually doesnt miss a beat but it wont start! It turns over as normal and starts up only with power start squirted into the air intake, however when i turn the ignition back of, then back on again it wont start. I think its some sort of priming issue but cant help thinking its going to be expensive!
Any help on this would be appriciated.
Many thanks.

sounds like an air leak or an injector going down

sounds to me like a fuel pressure problem, usually its the low pressure pump thats at fault. you could also have an injector problem causing the fuel pressure to drop below threshold. to confirm this you'll need to do a leak off test on the injectors.

Take off engine covers, disconnect the return pipe from the top of all the injectors and clamp the pipe so no fuel can come out. Turn the ignition on and watch for fuel coming out of the top of the injectors. You should have NO fuel coming out of the top of any of the injectors, if there is fuel coming from one or more injectors then this will cause bad/non start. If there is no fuel coming out then check the low side fuel pump. It's located on the passengers side next to the fuel tank, there is a small inspection plate covering held on with 2 10mm bolts, remover the plate, turn ign on and see if pump runs. if it doesn't, whack it! If it runs after hitting it, replace it.

Thanks clutchdust
I read your reply today after having a starting problem with my TD6 2 days ago. I called the RAC out and after having 2 attemps at the problem they gave up and called for the low loader to get me home. I did what you said today and buger me it worked so I have orderd the new part and it will be with me tomorrow. Many thanks.
