Hi, I have a freelander td4 on a 05 plate. It started to take a while to crank over and start. It doesn't matter about the weather it does it cold or warm. It's started to get worse now. It doesn't do it all the time. When it does it will turn over a couple of times then try's to start but won't, will turn over a couple more times then will fire up. Had it plug in at a Land Rover specialist and they said it was cam sensor. Changed it but still the same problem. Took the t pieces of the top of injectors and turned the ignition on and no traces of fuel coming up, so I take it this means the injectors are ok?
Thanks for any help

First welcome to the forum and feel free to introduce yourself. Can you hear the fuel pump working in the back. Have you had the Freelander serviced recently.

Hi it's a grey ish colour, also it was serviced about 6months by previous only.
When it does start and Rev it it seems to splutter for a second then revs fine. Also it drives fine when running
Thanks for replies

It is possible the replacement cam sensor is no good, cheap ones fail quickly.
So it could be,
Failing injector.
High pressure fuel regulator O ring perished.
Bad replacement cam sensor.

Try a good dose of injector cleaner with some quality diesel first and let that run through.
If that doesn't sort it, then it's spanner time :)

Ok will look into this, the make of the cam sensor put in was Intermot. As soon as it was fitted, turned the key and it had the same problem

A decent cam sensor is around £100. Aftermarket ones around £30-£50, these are the ones that fail.

Did you get an engine management light on before they diagnosed it. Cos if you didn't there won't have been a fault code stored, and the replacement sensor will have been a best guess.

No light, took it to a garage because it was playing up and they said cam sensor so thought they would of cleared it, then took to Land Rover specialist because I thought there computer would be better and it came back with cam sensor again

I'd put the old cam sensor back in. Then check the fuel rail sensor harness and connection (they corrode).
The injectors can give odd running issues, so only use decent fuel and put a diesel injector cleaner in the fuel.
Also it's worth looking at fuel pressure in low and high systems.
The high pressure regulator O ring can split, giving delayed or non starting too. A delayed start with split O ring will tend to give you a misfire on starting, as fuel will pool in the piston swirl pots.
