Hello.

Hoping someone may shed some light on this or maybe give me some ideas to go on.

My 95 300tdi disco is sometimes struggling to start after leaving it stood for a day. Definitely not electrical as the battery spins it over like it always has.
I'm thinking it may be a fuel problem.

When I first flick the key it tries to splutter into life but quickly dies again as if no fuel. Then need to floor the throttle whilst turning it over for 10-15 seconds before it finally fires into life. Will then run and start all day long like nothing has every happened.
Come the next morning, again it struggles to start.

I first had this problem just before Xmas when I rebuilt the front axle and the front end was higher than the rear on axle stands for 2 days and since has got progressively more frequent.

Timing belt was changed about 2 months ago so also wondering if the timing could be ever so slightly out?
But it's been fine and tension and timing marks were checked and rechecked half a dozen times before I put it all back together.

So could it be timing? Or maybe a fuel related problem?
Maybe have an air leak in a fuel line? Or could my lift pump be on its way out? Or anything else I can check) have a look at?

Apologies for this being a bit long winded just trying to give as much info as possible.
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions. :)

Are the spill off pipes in good condition? I replaced mine, and although they looked ok on the surface, they were actually really badly cracked and split. New pipes took about 5 mins to fit and along with an extra earth strap to the engine it sorted my starting issues out. May be worth a try as the pipe is only a couple of quid.

As above, check over the rubber leak off pipes linking each injector and also look at the metal connectors on the top of the fuel tank, could be air getting in to the system there.

Cheers guys :)

Well the rubber pipes are in a pretty bad state tbh so may well be that but haven't thought anything of it.

Also noticed after a day off roading the spill off pipe on injector 1 was off and as a result had diesel all down that side of the engine. (on the plus side it done a good job of cleaning it :D)

The plastic pipe that returns to the pump? Not sure where it goes? Is a bad fit so was thinking of adding a more flexible piece and putting it on in between to insure a good fit. Can you get a replacement for this part too?

Thanks again I honestly hadn't thought about that.
