Hi I have a Disco 2 TD5 which sounds to me like it has a sticky starter solenoid. It sounds like it's going to start but instead of the motor turning over it goes click and noting happens. If I try for 10-15 attempts it turns over an fires with no problem. Am I as well to buy a new starter motor since if the solenoid is corroded and sticking then at 120,000 and 10 years the starter is probably in a similar state. I'm not the most competent mechanic and would like some advice to prevent being royaly ripped off at a garage.

Follow ratty,s link. Theres no need to get a new starter, and if you can get the starter off to fit a new one then you can change the solenoid contacts.

(don't be skared by the title....it's tha same s**t) DefenderTD5.co.uk - starterrepair , or http://www.repairkitsuk.com/3.html I can tell you from my experience that the easy way is to take the starter down(you'll get some fun with the top bolt.....secret: the tubular key must be just a little longer than the starter)
