I was thinking of getting one of those Numax CXV-X 1000's.. what one did you get johnny?

banner starting bull heavy duty still only a lead acid battery but i prefer the old ways to these new fangled gel no maintenance ****ters with one touch of the booster or a set of jump leads and its fooked :rolleyes:

atleast i get a 3 year guarrantee with this fukker :D:D

Any progress today? I reckon your secretly developing hybrid Landy technology -engine will just be used to charge battery when low :D

nothing to report as of yet due to having 2 kids 1 at 4 and 1 at 6 months both with suspected whooping cough :eek:

its gonna be tomorrow morning and bloody early aswell before anyone else wakes up in this fekkin house :rolleyes:

i will beat the doc to getting running first :smokin:

I've taken out and cleaned the starter plus measuring up replacement wiring later ;) making the most of my time it as I've also got short stuffs rear shock to do tomorrow

I have put timing belts on diesels before and got the timing out, they start rev and stop.
Also i have put the return bango with the restrictor in it in the feed hole ,then they don't rev.

Just saying

Fantastic news - bet you're chuffed! The smoke didn't look particularly bluey in the video - sure it's not just a little rich? What does it smell like? Perhaps a good few miles and get her hot. Engine sounds nice to me though (as far as these basic diesels go!)

gonna have a nother tinker with it over the weekend as im sure the thermostat is stuck open

engine doesnt seem to be running up to its optimal temperature and is luke warm to the touch even if its been sat idling for over half an hour and no heat from the heater vents even though the pipes only feel slightly warm

just wondering if i can get it to a good temperature will it clear the smoke a bit better :rolleyes:

So what did you do to get it happy?

John

do yer want the full version or the short version

when i got the fukker it ran ropey but verry verry smokey so i opted for a head refurb and new head gasket wich didnt work then it was off with the head a 2nd time and new pistons and a full rebore while i was at it new bottom end shells oil pump cleaned out and new gaskets evrywhere and it still smoked its taters off

so injectors were next on the list and got a set of brannies from a local supplier to not verry much effect so then the only thing left was the fuel dist pump so bought a second hand one wich when fitted it started but headed straight for flat out and wouldnt let up no matter what so i part exed that pump against a reconditioned pump wich when fitted it wouldnt start properly and when it did it would be a 3 second blast then dead again and needing a full re-bleed

finally eliminated the fuel air leak found in the copper washers on the top banjo bolt for the fuel line and got a 15 second blast so then turned me attention to the lift pump wich i found to have a busted return spring on the diaphragm wich i replaced as best i could with a spring out of a cupboard door catch put that all together again and away she went with next to no coaxing or fettling about :D:D

Johnny, you might find it will never get up to temp without actually doing some driving. Try blocking rad with cardboard or even disconnecting the fan, in weather like this it keeps the engine cool even before the thermostat is open.

D

i was driving it about on sunday with a 1 tonne trailer on the back over the fields to the point the trailer sunk in the **** up to the axle and was basically ploughing the field pulled like a fekkin freight train but still didnt get even a little warm :smokin:

i was toying with the idea of getting one of them radiator grille jacket thingys but the only thing stopping me is the fear of forking out for one and it getting nicked

I've got one and it helps a little though was a bit disappointed that instead of having the nice turn buckles on it it turned up with four tie-wraps! Just go the old-skool route and shove a bit of cardboard behind the radiator grille!

I'm sure you have checked but it might be worth double checking for air-locks by taking off the rad cap and squishing the rad pipe and see if any bubbles come out. Also try taking off a heater pipe and checking there as they're at the highest point and can be a **** to get filled...

Sounds like you're getting some good use out of it. Last time I tried a trick like that I sunk my landy up to its axles in very wet mud, glad I was driving it and not pushing it!

My diesel 2.25 temp gauge goes to half way up he gauge in summer and this time of year sits just below half way up. It takes about 3-4 miles maximum to get there even this time of year. I did look at buying a rad muff but decided against it....'twas a bad idea searching the term 'muff' on google as I now get dating banners appear on a frequent basis!! Lol
