Ok so the insanity deepens, the fleet has now expanded by 2 lightweights, one for parts and one to restore.
The prob is that the petrol engine turns over slowly with a new battery, and the second lightweight has a desil engine, so does anybody know if a petrol and desil starter motor are interchangeable?
Thanks in advance
Simon

i dont know for sure but i'd think they'd be the same as long as both your engines are the 2 1/4L petrol and diesel types...

how many landy's you got now?? i've found 5 to be a nice number, hard work but well worth it!!

Not interchangeable, Petrol has a 2 bolt fixing and the diesel has a 3.

Check your Battery connections and Earth connections,

Before you change your Starter motor or solenoid.

If you have a set of jump leads use these as a temporary test, just say get your negative lead, connect it to your neg on the battery and then to the block or starter fixing bolt (not the pos on the starter BIG SPARKS IF YOU DO) if the engine turns over quicker you need to replace the wiring or clean the connections etc you get the point.
If no different do a similar thing with the Pos lead, Jump lead pos onto the Battery pos and direct to the battery side of the solenoid, if better repair / replace the wiring, you could also do the same on the starter side to the solenoid.

Make sure the jump leads are quality and not the ridiculous thin ones.
I have seen a lot of vehicles with the Earth link wire missing from engine block to chassis. Lastly if the heavy Battery wires are getting too hot it is showing a high resistance and could need replaced or connections looked at.
