Hi.
I have a disco 1997 petrol V8 auto, runs like a dream but every now and then it refuses to turn the starter motor when its hot. leave it for aprox 5 mins and starts first time . Checked connections and replaced battery, any ideas?

Chech out the starter solenoid.......take a powerfull enough wire and give a (+) directly from the battery to dhe starter's (+) bolt bypassing the solenoid.....if it starts this way your problem comes from the solenoid, try to find just a solenoid, if not check this out http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Land-Rover-R...ZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item53df073a28 ...................sorry I realised late that yours is petrol engine, but the solenoid bypassing might work

Update> As I saw the picture of the starter,(if the problem is the solenoid, and I think it is according to the simptoms you described)...... if you want to save money you may dissasemble the solenoit and clean the copper contacts within........but it won't last more

Eyup, had similar sounding problem on my 3.9, intermittent non-starting with or without the relay clicking. The way i sorted mine was to clean and re make the earth. On my N reg the earth is bolted to the pass. Side headlight panel behind the coil + what i think is the ignition amp. Take the 2 bolts out of the coil clamp + Clean this up, itll only take half an hour. Hope this helps.

eyup, had a none start this aft. drove 8 miles to Royston auto spares. failed to start when i came out of shop. key turned, relay in pass footwell clicked but no attempt at strter. tried usual trick of shorting solenoid but just ended up weldeing jubilee clip spanner to chassis! bump startd her fine so checked the earthh at coil found one of the bolts extra lose. gonna get a pair of stainy nuts to go on the front of the bulk head and try to make her bst
