Got my 90 back from being welded and the garge advised i might want to think about a new starter as it sounds like a bag of ****e and is prob on its way out, must admit does take a few attempts to start it, but i just put it down to the fact that she is 28 years old.

Had a quick look at starter motor prices seem to go up from £100 to £200, like every one else its not like i have cash to burn atm (just cost me £500 to get it past mot and road tax and insurance runs out in the next 30 days) Was just woundering if you can get start motors repared or am i just better off buying a new one. I know no one fixes any thing any more.

Found this one, which i hope should fits mine,Starter Motor 2.5 D, 2.5TD & 200Tdi ERR5009 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.which seams far cheaper than the rest, is there that much diffrences in starter motors is a £200 one really that much better?

Get one from CCW tools - he specilises in reduction gear starters, the supplier he uses use genuine bosch and denso motors and then put their own highly engineered reduction gearbox onto it. I have one in my Disco and I will get putting one into my 90 once she is rebuilt (even though the starter in it is OK) because it starts so well it's unbelievable.

I have 300tdi's, now these engines fall into two catagories, those that start well and those that don't. Well after I fitted this starter to my 300 it had no choice but to start - cold weather, no glow plugs away it goes no problem the old starter always spun OK but it just didn't have enough oomph. Also, this starter draws less currant that the normal one so in cold weather you are already on a bonus as it doesn't need as much power, but it takes less toll on your battery.

I spoke to the owner of the company, he informed me this company makes the starters which go onto a lot of vintage cars and things, if they are at shows and engines fail, they are rated to wind the vehicle up onto the ramp on the starter.

£200 is just a bit much, but that ****part one will fail - they are totally pathetic.

This is what you need: http://www.ccw-tools.com/Reduction-...eduction-Gear-Starter-Motor/p-599-1590-34235/

Look for starter motor and alternator refurbers near you using google and take your starter motor to them, if it's original then it's prob a bosh one and will be like new once refurbed, they usually strip it there and then if a good company and tell you how much to refurb it any where from £30-£100, I also found that I went through about 3 starter motors then I changed the start relay behind the fuse box and had no more trouble as that was worn and was not my starter motor at all

Yes - same starter was used from 2.5NA (and others for that matter) up till 300tdi, the difference being the original 2.5NA starters were much bigger and more brute force, they have come on a bit since then and by the time we got to the 2/300tdi's they weren't as manly. This starter however is just that, very manly - and can wind the Landy along in gear well which is good for offroad situations where you may need to start in gear on an in/decline.

I bought the very one I sent you a link to, it's a bosch motor; identifiable from their distinct casings - and confirmed by Tom of CCW - who is the most helpful gent I have dealt with in some time.
