Starter Motor Issues

I have a p38 2.5 diesel..

just fitted a new stater motor and now on acceleration it whines..getting higher pitched as the revs get higher... its does get quieter when warm.. but its still there..

What is the problem? dodgy starter? not dis-engaging?

Do I have to grease it up?

Sure its not you auxilary belt tensioner ?

I've not touched anything else and there was no whine before..

And it whines in neutral too..

it should not whine, the starter should be physically disconnected after power is cut from the solenoid.

take starter off, connect jump leads to the sarter see if the solenoid is working coorectly and releasing correctly.

if its not pulling back, grease it see if it helps.

also look for any odd marks on the teeth.

there also may be a leak of power somewhere that could cause the starter to continue to run after solenoid has disenguaged.

locat the fuse and pull it see if it still whines with engine on.

so pull out the fuse when its running? and which fuse?
