Aaarg, I've just gone to remove the starter on my discovery td5 after the bendex stopped engaging. On removal of starter the cog was left in the engine. This was retrieved with ease but obviously all the ball bearings that hold the shaft bearing together have fallen inside. Can anyone advise best course of action to remove the balls? I never noticed a plate to remove to expose the bottom of the flywheel but I might have been mistaken.

On a manual wading plug out and flexible magnetic retriever. On an auto three bolts out of cover plate on bell housing and same magnetic retriever. Although they maybe small enough not to bother anything, but best out.
